The Two Major Trends I Noticed in New York City

When I went to New York City last week everything in New York was green. I’m not referring to the trees, which had actually turned yellow and red, or saying that the city had finally become completely eco-friendly. I’m talking about everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, wearing army green parka jackets. The weather was just turning chilly and it seemed that everyone had pulled out his or her very own take on the parka. Some had fur collars; others had covered theirs with huge silver studs. Most of the parkas I saw were long with a drawstring, but some rocked waist length or even cropped.

Pictured above is the daughter of the French Vogue editor dressing up her army parka with a black chain bag. At a thrift store I actually bought an Army parka for two dollars and intend on breaking it out ASAP!

We also have an amazing parka in stores that I bought and haven’t taken off since. It has bronze chain mail detail on the shoulders and pockets. It will keep you warm as the days get chiller and right on trend.

Another trend that had taken over the city this fall was shearling. I talked about my obsession with shearling jackets and boots after the Burberry show for Fall/ Winter 2010.

This picture above from the runway show is of a shearling jacket that celeb stylist Rachel Zoe had already been spotted wearing.

Above is the amazing shearling jacket in stores that looked extremely similar to the Burberry one. People all over New York were covered in shearling. They had it on leather jackets, hats and shoes.

The moment I got home I bought these fabulous shoes shown above from a local boutique so I could rock the shearling boot look too. I also bought a leather jacket with a light shearling collar a few weeks before the trip and proudly wore it all around the city.

So what did I learn from the big city? The army trend is far from dead. Parkas are the hottest part of the army inspired items but I still saw cargo skinnies and combat boots everywhere too. I also learned that the best way to keep warm this fall and winter is with shearling! The best part about these trends? They look amazing together and you can find both at a Glik’s store near you!
