Movember
It’s that time of year again– Movember. That’s right. You take the month of November, add a bit of stylish facial hair, and you get Movember.
During Movember, thousands of manly faces in the US and worldwide will sprout moustaches. These men with their “Mo’s” will help to raise awareness (and funds) for men’s health, particularly prostate and testicular cancer.
A little history…
Movember modestly began in Melbourne, Australia in 2004 when 30 men were challenged to grow out their moustaches for 30 days to aid in raising awareness for prostate cancer and depression in men. Since then Movember has grown into a global movement that has inspired more that 1.9 million Mo Bros and Mo Sistas (ladies who support the Mo) to join in, resulting in the raising of over $126.3 million dollars.
The funds raised are absorbed to programs that Movember runs directly, as well as to their men’s health affiliates, the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Between these three powerhouse foundations is the assurance that funds are being properly used to support a wide range of groundbreaking, worldwide programs that support common goals such as Movember in the area of education, research, and survival.
Movember’s Goal:
“We will get men to grow moustaches by creating an innovative, fun and engaging annual Movember campaign that raises funds and awareness globally”
Getting Involved:
The moustache is the heart of their campaign and Movember is all about bringing this vintage manly classic back into the spotlight. Men who decide to get involved (Mo Bros) commit to growing out a moustache for 30 days. In doing this, Mo Bros literally become walking billboards for the Movember movement. Ladies, known as Mo Sistas, can get involved too by encouraging the men in their lives to hop on board with this trend and grow luscious, full staches.
Besides growing out your own “staches”, there are many other ways that you can get involved with Movember; donating money, hosting your own event in honor of Movember, or gathering further involvement through your workplace, school campus, and community.
A few of you may already have well beyond a 5 o’clock shadow started but no clue where to go with your new found hair. Here are a few classic stache styles for you to find inspiration from.
