Meet the Artists: Saugatuck Style Your Sole Event!
The Style Your Sole event in Saugatuck, MI is at the end of this month! We have five talented artists who will be painting on TOMS shoes all day for customers on May 28th.
Alan Hanko is a local artist who grew up in Saugatuck for most of his life. Ever since he was young he had a special interest in art. Coming from Saugatuck that isn’t a rare thing, since it is such a creative town. Currently, he is getting his degree in graphic design at Central Michigan University. After college, his goal is to work with companies like Element and Volcom on tee shirts, posters, and other merchandise.

Artist James Broe is an eighteen-year-old human being. He spends a lot of his time on the Internet looking for fun things to either look at or do. To him as an artist, the Internet is a treasure trove of inspiration and good times in general. He enjoys many types of art, including digital arts (such as digital painting, animation, etc.) along with fine arts, such as painting, drawing, and printmaking. Many pieces of his art can be found around the area in local galleries. James Broe accredits this mostly to his wildly helpful art teacher, Mrs. Christa Wise. She has entered his work in multiple competitions, and, so far, James has not lost one this year! He does, however, have a life outside of my artwork. James likes to think he’s a fairly well rounded individual, since he runs for either cross-country or track year-round. He is still in high school in good ol’ Saugatuck, and plans on attending Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids in fall of this year! Apart from that, James maintains a decent social life, and he loves meeting new people. It makes for some interesting scenarios, if you ask him. James believes that people are highly interesting, and he loves interacting with them. The end!

Trish Lynn Vandeventer is primarily a self-taught artist that pretty much marches to the beat of her own drum! She loves what she does, is dedicated, passionate and she believes it shows in her work. Trish believes that art is from oneself and should not be directed by anyone’s rules or techniques. She has created her own style through her own journey of learning. “There are no rules in art. No boundaries. It’s the ultimate freedom; the ultimate acceptance and equality of being. You are judged only on your creativity.” Trish’s satisfaction comes from giving sculptural life to beauty, strength, grace, and liberation through artwork of dynamic scale and intricate design. By exploring existence her work serves to create welcoming and compelling interest. In a world where our daily lives are filled with repetition, Trish hopes to give viewers breathing room to feel, think, and embrace the beauty and meaning in life.
