Lokai Partners with Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish is determined to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Thanks to the efforts of tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters, a wish is granted every 35 minutes on average in the United States and its territories.
Granting a wish is more than just an act of compassion for an ill child. The whole experience has the power to change the lives of wish kids, parents, doctors, volunteers, and anyone else who may be involved in the process. According to a 2011 Wish Impact Study, health professionals recognize having a wish granted as an important adjunct in a child’s medical treatment. Not only does the wish experience provide kids with a day, two days, or even a week of happiness, but parents and volunteers also observe that a wish come true makes wish kids feel stronger. It can also be a source of encouragement to comply more readily with treatment protocols and to experience less fear facing their life threatening conditions.
Every year, around 27,000 children are newly qualified to have their biggest wish granted. For each wish, there needs to be two wish-granting volunteers in addition to volunteers who help behind the scenes at the Make-A-Wish office with event management and an array of other roles. That’s a lot of people donating their time and a lot of resources that need to be funded. One major cost that must be covered is the cost of wish travel for wish kids and their families. Make-A-Wish requires upwards of 2.5 billion frequent flier miles each year. There are a number of secure ways to help raise funds to cover these costs and to help Make-A-Wish come closer to achieving their ultimate vision- making every eligible child’s wish come true.
Determined to do their part, Lokai has pledged to donate $1 to Make-A-Wish America for each neon Lokai bracelet sold between today, April 11th and May 31st, with a minimum donation of $300,000.
