Exciting News on TOMS shoes Events!

I posted a blog post on TOMS shoes last fall on all the amazing work that the company is doing for children in need. I have also mentioned all of the cute and fashionable shoes that Glik’s gets in each season from TOMS. Until the meeting we had with our TOMS rep, Fernando, I don’t think anyone here at the Glik’s office really understood what TOMS was doing for the world. As we gathered in the conference room Fernando played us an informational video. The opening of the video informed us that out of every 100 people on the earth, 40 don’t have shoes.

That’s a pretty harsh statistic, but what is even harsher is learning how important shoes actually are for survival and health. If you think about your day, all the places you go, and how hard it would be to do those things without shoes, you’ll get an idea. Rough terrain like rocks, or diseases that are passed through bacteria in the dirt can cause serious, life-threatening issues. Some children aren’t aloud to go to school without shoes. Owning shoes may seem like an everyday privilege, but for people who don’t own them, they are a luxury.

To support this organization that does so much for the world, Glik’s has created a few events that can support TOMS shoes and all the incredible work that they do.

To understand on some level what it’s like to live without shoes, the Glik’s home office and Regional Area Managers will do a barefoot walk at the St. Louis Arch at lunchtime on April 5th, 2011. The St.Louis downtown area isn’t known for being the cleanest part if town, so this walk will give the Glik’s employees a taste of what 40 percent of the world suffers through each day. We will walk without shoes to a local gym called Lift For Life, a non-profit organization that provides a safe & nurturing environment for underprivileged youth to practice a healthy lifestyle and socialize with peers. Here we will do what TOMS calls a “shoe drop”, which is donating TOMS shoes to people in need on location. For more information about this event and how you can be involved email me at AndieGlik@Gliks.com!

The other event we are so excited about is called Style Your Sole. In the following towns, on the following dates, local artists will decorate every pair of TOMS shoes purchased according to what the customer wants.

These exciting events will be held outdoors, with live music, as apart of the festival/event taking place. This is an opportunity to get a pair of customized TOMS and support a charity organization.

Even if you can’t come to either of these events there is still something you can do. By simply buying a pair of TOMS shoes from a Glik’s store you are providing a pair of shoes for a child in need!
