Co-Founders Mandy and Summer Talk Fashion & Amuse Society

New to Glik’s last November, Amuse Society has since elevated to one of our most sought after brands for spring and summer. Co-Founders Mandy and Summer have created more than just a brand–they’ve built a lifestyle. We got the chance to ask them a few questions about fashion and Amuse Society. Check out their interview below.

How did you both get started in the fashion industry?

SUMMER: I grew up in a small beach town in the seventies and I only wore bikinis.  That’s where my love of fashion and swimwear began.  It wasn’t until High School that I decided I wanted to devote my education to it and then turn it into a career.

MANDY:  Right after high school, I headed west to California and attended design school. I thought I wanted to be a buyer, but quickly realized I had a love for design. My parents mentored me from many miles away and taught me that beyond just having creativity I had to work hard, put in the hours, and work on building relationships. This was my ticket into the fashion world!

SUMMER & MANDY:  We first met while working at Roxy back in late 90’s. Mandy was a swimwear designer and I was an assistant merchandiser. The two of us have been friends for over 15 years and we have a close group of girlfriends who have kept in close contact for the same amount of time as well.

How would you describe the Amuse girl?

SUMMER & MANDY:  The Amuse girl is a “rock muse on a beach holiday.”  She feminine, yet tough, effortlessly cool and sexy.

Where do you get your design inspiration?

SUMMER & MANDY: We are really inspired by the amazing women around us who are chasing their dreams and making things happen! That is why we formed and continue to form a Society of these women – they are people we want to surround ourselves with, who will contribute to making this journey successful and entertaining!

What are you favorite brands to wear? (Outside of Amuse of course!)

SUMMER: I am really simple at the end of day… I have my go-to jeans and basic knits.  Lately I have been abusing my old school Nikes and wearing flip-flops a lot When I need to turn it up, it’s always black and a shade of white. I never leave home without my leather motorcycle jacket within reach!

MANDY: I love mixing my high-end denim from brands like J Brand and IRO with my Amuse pieces as well as Vintage tops and caftans.  I also love Annie Bing boots, Vanessa Mooney jewelry, and Janessa Leone hats!
