Agenda, My First Buying Trip Experience by Laurel Vernier Sr. Assistant Womens Moto and Surf Buyer
It was my first big buying trip as well as my first trip to California, and it couldn’t have gone any better. The weather was amazing, the people were friendly and laid back, and the fashion was extreme. We saw a lot of Hurley, Roxy, Billabong, Volcom, RVCA, TOMs, and more. It’s a very brand driven environment.
Friday was our last day for appointments and we had two big visits left, Billabong and Quicksilver/Roxy. We headed to Billabong first, where we got a tour of their offices. It was amazing to see the different aspects of the company and what really goes on behind the scenes. The designers are already working on Fall/Holiday 2011! Hard to imagine when we are just getting into Fall 2010. After Tricia, Nicole and I peaked thru the Juniors line, they were finally ready to show us. The line looked great and got us excited for Spring 2011! We also saw swimwear, which looked just as equally amazing.
We then headed over to the Quicksilver/Roxy office.
We immediately separated from the men’s team in order to jump straight into the Juniors Spring 2011 line. The line had a lot of nautical inspired tee’s and fleece. In addition, we saw subdued, pop colors as well as stripes and floral prints. We looked thru the line rather quickly as Quicksilver had a movie premier that evening for an up and coming surfer that was a must see for the Glik’s team.
We met the Quicksilver team for cocktails and appetizers at Scott’s in Costa Mesa. From there we walked to the movie premier. The movie, Scratching the Surface, is based on the life of Julian Wilson, a young surfer sponsored by Quicksilver and Red bull. The Gliks team was able to meet Julian inside the premier.
After the movie premiered, the band started up, and everyone went crazy. We were all dancing and having a great time.
Nicole and I were able to meet the Hurley model, Rob Machado.
In addition, we also got to meet Carey Hart and saw a glimpse of Pink.
It was a great night filled with fun and laughter by all!
