The (Great) Little City That Could

Fresh on the heels of our incredible World Series win last night, I can’t help but stop and marvel about the determination, talent and creativity that our fair city fosters. I am constantly inspired by the dedication to success and happiness that I see in my fellow San Franciscans. So many of our most iconic moments and landmarks came to be through a moment of struggle—from the Chinese immigrants who faced tremendous discrimination yet created our incomparable Chinatown in the heart of the city, to the Summer of Love moment that inspired future generations to buck tradition and think freely, to the devastating Loma Prieta earthquake that certainly rattled but did not destroy our community, to current events like our beloved “Batkid” who faces his battle with bravery (and spunk!). Clearly all these situations vary in severity and seriousness, but the true pursuit of happiness is a clear common thread. Watching our San Francisco Giants play such a magnificent series and triumphantly emerge World Series champions (for the third time in five years!) is a shining example of our city’s grit and determination. For all the dreamers and the doers out there contributing to what makes this city great—keep doing you! There’s truly no other city in the world like it.
