My Daily Dose of Joe

Small Business Saturday was created in honor of the madness that is Black Friday, which typically involves corporate retail sales. SBS celebrates small business and the community it creates, which as you all know is near and dear to my heart.

Today’s post is all about Nervous Dog Coffee, one of my staple small business shops in Bernal Heights. They make a magnificent cup of Joe (and food – every extra crispy english muffin *my personal fav* is thoughtfully crafted and delivered with a smile). They are a fabulous independent shop that I rely on daily. They are such a major part of the Bernal family; the rest of us simply couldn’t exist without them (and their caffeine boosts!)

In my quest for sustainability I most often use a white ceramic mug for coffee beverages (at home and beyond). In my 5+ years at Secession Art & Design, my white mug and I have been marching down to Nervous Dog Coffee to get our regular caffeine fix. The staff, especially owner Joe, has been nothing short of amazing. My standard extra-foamy-breve-au-lait-with-a-hint-of-vanilla is a just little sliver of paradise.

The coffee is entirely fair trade and organic, which is right up my ethical alley. The pastries are made right here in the SF Bay Area. Every bite tastes deliciously sustainable. There’s something comforting about a “Cheers” type crowd – I really do feel at ease when I know everyone in this coffee shop knows my name…

As Nervous Dog Coffee is my daily release, I had to share it in hopes everyone can enjoy the amazing ambiance. Even more impressive? They just received their seventh perfect score on health inspection! They’re clean, they’re green, and I love ‘em like crazy. We often cross promote (whether sending clients to one another or wearing each other’s t-shirts) and they are an invaluable part of my day. I love Nervous Dog Coffee and can’t wait for you to check it out, too! Tell me your experience in the comments below – and tell Joe, Christina or Esandra I sent you!
