Inspiration Abounds at Dwell on Design
The sun has set on another glorious weekend at Dwell on Design. My mind – and heart – are overflowing with love, creativity and inspiration, and I just can’t wait to get my hands to work in the CMD studio. In the meantime, check out some of my very favorite innovators below. I’ve said before: American Design at its finest!
First shout-out undoubtedly goes to Galanter and Jones, quite the talented brother-and-sister duo whose booth was settled right next to CMD. It felt like a homey oasis since this sibling team not only hails from SF but are also SFMade members. We also had Vanessa Gade and Alice Roche, both SF jewelry designers, right in our ‘hood (what can we say, CMD loves to have a piece of SF near us no matter where we physically are).
Miranda Jones and Aaron “Galanter” Jones, pictured above (center and right), created amazing heated outdoor furniture that provided a welcome break for our tired limbs. This experience was not unlike indulging in a hot stone massage: oh my, my! We got quite the kick out of watching the pure joy and utter satisfaction on the faces of everyone who took a seat on these heated benches throughout the event. My favorite piece was the Helios (I was dreamily envisioning one in arctic white with a brass base), and I quite loved their newest design Evia which was displayed right across from the CMD booth. I’m still fantasizing about when I’ll have enough outdoor space to purchase one of these gorgeous pieces.
Sprouting Sprocket Studio‘s Hütte Hut trailer took a piece of my heart ramblin’ down the road at this year’s Dwell. This wood-and-canvas tent on wheels takes glamping to a whole new level (imagine how picturesque would it be parked behind a vintage VW Beetle at a cozy NorCal campsite).
This gorgeous little wooden teardrop opened with side French doors and, of course, was styled to perfection with an old-school record player, countertop Heath ceramics, and a little cactus garden in its “backyard”. I was constantly visiting this Hut over the weekend. Retailing at approximately 40k, I’m already starting a little savings account so someday I can call one my very own!
I always like to leave DOD with a little a few goodies (#MerchantsSupportingMerchants) and Rypen’s Mercantile certainly provided the opportunity. I scored a couple bottles of Bloody Mary mix for my honey and a wax canvas lunch bag, in navy, for myself. Rypen’s was a feast for the senses; the collection of home goods are handpicked by designers, all under $100 (!!) and committed to delivering delight. Speaking of delight, I chatted with founder Peder Nyhus and am thrilled to have a new site to purchase fun modern gifts (did I mention all items in the Mercantile include free shipping!?).
That’s a wrap, folks. Hope you are feeling creatively inspired by these amazing designers, and I’d love to hear you sound off on your favorite Dwell on Design 2014 moments in the comments below. Until next year…
