A Thought to Dwell on
As some of you may know, my career as a designer began well before I launched my jewelry business. After graduating Virginia Tech with honors in Industrial Design, my path began -back in the beginning of this decade- at a small furniture design company in Oakland. As time passed, I ultimately decided that working in someone else’s studio wasn’t quite what I had in mind. Though my love of furniture design remained, I decided it was not necessarily my calling. Just a couple of years later my beloved CMD came to life, leading me to a beautiful world of jewelry design where I inevitably sketched my own vision into a product that I could call my own. Needless to say, my heart remains firmly fascinated with all things industrial-design-related. After all, it’s truly a part of where I began my path back at VT’s College of Architecture and Urban Studies.
Dwell Design Week, June 14-June 20, is a series of special events leading up to and in conjunction with Dwell on Design, and which encourages both design professionals and consumers to experience the best of design from around the world. Dwell Magazine hosts a series of discussions between Dwell Editors and select design innovators that rotate throughout the L.A. design districts, including the popular “Meet the Architects” Nights. This year sponsors include The Lincoln Motor Company, Lladro, Marimekko and Resource Furniture. One of my favorite keynote speakers is Michael Graves, an industrial designer I have been following since my days at Tech.
I am especially proud to participate and showcase my jewelry line at Dwell on Design for the first time this year, as only twelve jewelry designers were given this honor. Icing on the delicious cake will be the presence of architects and designers from around the globe, and thousands of lovers of architecture and industrial design (oh joy!). If you happen to be in the LA area and able to attend this amazing presentation of design (June 21 – 23), please stop by Booth #M3 and say hello. I’d love to show you what we’ve been up to here at CMD. I couldn’t be more excited to travel down to LA in couple of weeks!
