King Henry of the hoovers
Let’s make this absolutely clear from the off-set this is a deadly serious non serious article about a little guy who some people cast aside. A little guy who doesn’t get the recognition he deserves. A little Guy with a big heart (motor). His name is Henry “Numatic” Hoover…
Henry the little red vacuum cleaner is made by a British company called Numatic, based in Somerset. The company is almost 50 years old, but Henry wasn’t launched until the 1980’s despite his prototype being created in 1968!!
You can pick up a Henry in shops these days for around £120 or on Amazon at the moment for £99, which is a steal. This may seem a bit steep for a hoover that was created the same year that people like Jennifer Aniston, Gerard Butler and Puff Daddy were born however, I am here to tell you why not purchasing a Henry as your choice of vacuum could really suck! (pun intended)
The vast range of Vacuums/Hoovers out there today is insane with the likes of Dyson, Hoover, Dirt Devil, G-tech the list goes on and on and on….
But, with the price of a Dyson hoover ranging from £150 to £400, Henry is already looking like a steal.
Whats that you say? “But Henry doesn’t have the power of a Dyson!”, you say. You would be absolutely correct. In the same way an apple I-pad has more pixels than the naked eye can physically see, why have that many pixels if they aren’t needed? The same goes for Henry.
The original Henry packed a whopping 1200w worth of power through twin motors hidden away in his stylish little bowler hat. But with new legislation in 2017 stating no Vacuum could have a motor with more than 900w Numatic went one better and created the new 620w that Henry now harnesses. Complete with obvious upgrades he still has the same, if not more, suction power as he always did and at the same time saving you a good few £££ in electricity usage.
Lets think five years down the line, parts start to break. I went onto Dyson’s spare parts page and was bombarded with parts so I thought lets keep it simple- lets say for example the floor nozzle (the general bit that sucks up stuff) on my hoover broke through age. How much would it cost me to replace it? The price for a Dyson Big Ball Nozzle (which is the current range of hoovers) costs £60.60 on Amazon whereas for Henry you can pick them up for £5.99
I have read stories about Henry’s still working to this day that were about 15-20 years ago. They are the most popular hoovers in building firms for their ability to suck up small rubble and concrete and whatever else you can feed him.
Check out this little stress test Vacuumlover has posted on youtube.
Henry is built to last and he has. He has this smiling little face that says no job is to tough lets just get on with it even when he struggles you hit his little boost button and he is right back on the job. It is for this reason he has cemented his place as the King of Hoovers in my eyes.
Riding on the back of Henry’s rise to the throne Numatic also released a whole family for Henry so that he will never be lonely.
They are capable of a whole range of tasks that Henry may otherwise struggle with like:
